How thick are your stickers?

It depends on the material and laminate. Our standard vinyl material is about 57 µm (2.2 mil), around 6 mil with laminate. Heavy Duty Stickers have a 12 mil laminate on their own, so they are much thicker.

Sticker thickness

Sticker thickness depends on the material and the laminate. Thickness is often given in mil (1 mil = 0.001 in = 25.4 µm) or in microns (µm). See micron in the Dictionary.

Standard vinyl stickers

Vinyl is the base material for most stickers.

  • Material only: about 57 µm (2.2 mil)

  • With glossy or matte laminate: around 6 mil (0.152 mm) in total

This keeps the sticker durable but flexible enough for smooth and gently curved surfaces.

Specialty materials

Holographic, Glitter, Prismatic, Mirror and Pixie Dust are built a little differently.

  • Material only: about 51 µm (2 mil)

  • With laminate: around 6 mil (0.152 mm) in total, with small variations from the texture or reflective layer

Because of the built-in effect layer, they can feel slightly stiffer than standard vinyl.

Heavy Duty Stickers

Heavy Duty Stickers use PVC with a 12 mil (about 0.305 mm) laminate, so the finished sticker is thicker than 12 mil. The thick laminate protects against scratches, UV and cleaning chemicals, and makes the sticker much stiffer. Heavy Duty Stickers are made for demanding surfaces, including rough and curved ones.

How thickness affects your sticker

  • Durability: thicker stickers resist scratches, wear and friction better.

  • Flexibility: thinner materials follow curves more easily. Thicker stickers are stiffer.

Choosing the right option

Think about:

  • indoor or outdoor use

  • exposure to UV, moisture or rubbing

  • if the surface is flat or curved

  • how long the sticker needs to last

Summary

  • Standard vinyl: about 2.2 mil material, around 6 mil with laminate

  • Specialty materials: about 2 mil material, around 6 mil with laminate

  • Heavy Duty: 12 mil laminate on its own, thicker in total
